World not bright

Postby Coffee16 » Fri Jan 29, 2010 7:00 am

Hello

One of our worlds we imported into TW came out very dimly lit compared to the way it looked in Max.

Left is Max, Right is TW
Do you have any idea why this happens and how it can be fixed.

Wow, that world looks amazing!

The lighting is pretty easy to fix. At the minute there is no 'vertex lighting' applied. Actually, all the vertices are set to 'grey', which is why at appears dull. MAX adds its own lighting, as you can see shading in the viewports. The solution to make it nice and bright:

Add a vertex paint modifier to the areas/nodes you want to brighten. Choose white, and paste on all. Collapse the modifier, then re export (you wont have to re export the textures).

Hope that helps. Thanks, Rob

Rob

Worked like a charm. Thank you very much, The world is very bright now - perfect. Our inexperience with Max is our biggest liability at the moment but we are learning slowly.
btw, the character rigging issues we had several weeks ago are resolved but as a result we had to let one of our designers go because he just didn't know enough to rig the character the way we needed. Thanks for all your help so far with the assets and the character rigging advice. It cleared up a lot of issues. :D

Great stuff, I am glad you guys got it all work. I am sure all the other TW users would love to see user created art and games/simulations, so if possible please show off and share your amazing creations :D

Thanks, Rob.

P.s Your world looks fantastic!!

I've apply the vertex paint modifier with great result in one of objects. However, that returns an "Unknown System Exception" to me when I'm trying to export the vertex animation. How can I get a nice animated bright object?

Can you be more specific as to what you did to create this error? What worked first and then didnt work? Have you had vertex animation working properly before hand?

The vertex colours are not interpolated during the vertex animation. I suggest painting a test object all 'white' then doing a simple vertex animation.

The object in question is a car composed of some editable meshes. The amount of polygons is 13.000. It has an animation that when trigged, opens the car door. Everything go smooth through the exporting tools and work fine in the player. The problem comes when I try to make the object looks nicer and apply the Vertex Paint modifier. After that, I can successfully export the object (without optimising the mesh) but I can not export the vertex anim any more.

I've tested a simple animation with Vertex Paint on it and everything went perfect there.
I think thats very strange and I hope that some one can help me.

Hi,

This is very strange. The vertex animation system is very clunky, but once you get used to it, you can animate objects by following a very strict routine in MAX. However, the fact that vertex colours breaks the exporting of animations is totally bizarre - it shouldnt happen, as the vertex colours do not affect the animation. I have tried to replicate it and cannot. What version of MAX are you using? Could you send a screenshot of the error? Maybe you could email me your source files and I could take a look.

Thanks, Rob.
