Using MAYA for 3D design

Postby cbibeau » Mon Aug 09, 2010 4:08 pm

Hi,

I was wondering if you are planning on developing other types of plugins for other 3D design software, such a s MAYA and Turbosquid, in future Thinking Worlds versions.

Meanwhile, I am using a 3D party asset (in this case MAYA), where all of the modelling and texturing is done. Then I am planning to import the models to 3D Studio Max (some model will require vertex animations).
Besides checking polygon count, textures and scale adjustment, what kind of other amends within the editor should I adress before exporting to Thinking Worlds for testing?

Thanks !

Hi,

Currently there is no support for MAYA or other 3D modelling packages. The only pipeline to get user assets into Thinking Worlds is via 3ds MAX.

It sounds like you know what you are doing, in terms of poly count, textures and scale etc. We have no limits on anything, it's only on what the end PC can output which will limit it. Try and keep the poly count down, use the textures to do the work, and use the scale check model provided in the art zip file to check scale.

Post up some of your work to share with the others :)

Cheers.

Thanks Robby,

I will make sure to use the scale check model.

I am looking forward to see if the test exports will look as I am hoping they will look like. A lot of work is involved, but eventually i know it will be worth the efforts. The results are not tangible yet, but I will ensure to share my relevant learnings with the community, as I step over the obstacles on my way there.

Meanwhile I am thankful for Caspian support in this journey.
