Help - Do you have problems opening our PDF's files?

If you are experiencing difficulty in opening PDFs, it may be that:

  • The plug-in that is installed for opening PDFs within the web browser is malfunctioning.
  • You have installed a product like Norton Personal Firewall or Norton Internet Security.
  • The version of your Adobe Acrobat is not compatible with the version of the pdf file.
  • You are using a old version of your web browser. For instance, versions older than Interent Explorer 5.5 does not support some pdf's security feature.
  • The setting in your Adobe Reader are affecting the performance during the download process.
How can I solve the problem?

First thing you should try is to install the latest version of Adobe Reader. In most of cases, it will solve your problem.

If it does not work. You should take the following steps depending of the Web Browser you are using (Internet Explorer, Firefox or Netscape).

Internet Explorer
  • When attempting to open a PDF the web browser becomes a blank white screen. At this point the web browser hangs and the PDF does not open. It may be because of the plug-in that is trying to open the PDF within the web browser.

    Solution:

    1. Close your web browsers and open Adobe Reader
    2. Go to the 'Edit' menu and select "Preferences"
    3. In the left column select "Internet"
    4. In the Web Browser Options uncheck “Display PDF in browser”
    5. Click OK and try to open the PDF file again
  • The PDF download is working very slowly. In most of cases, it is due to Adobe attempting to update itself. If you do not want to update Adobe Reader now you can apply the following solution: Solution:
    1. Close your web browsers and open Adobe Reader
    2. Go to the 'Edit' menu and select "Preferences"
    3. In the left column select "Updates"
    4. Select "Check for Update Manually" in the dropdownlist. Thus, Adobe will ask you if you want to update or NOT your version of Adobe Reader
    5. Click OK and try to open the PDF file again
Firefox / Netscape
  • During the PDF download you get an error message suggesting that it could not open the PDF and that it was not a supported file type or that the file is damaged. To determine if this is related to NPF or NIS:

    Solution 1:

    1. Close your web browsers and open Adobe Reader
    2. Go to the "Edit" menu and select "Preferences"
    3. In the left column select "Internet"
    4. In the Web Browser Options uncheck “Display PDF in browser”
    5. Click OK and try to open the PDF file again.
    6. When you attempt to open the PDF choose to save the file to your computer
    7. Right click on the file after you have downloaded it and view the "properties"
    8. If the file size is zero (0) you must disable the Norton Personal Firewall or Norton Internet Security. Then the file will download correctly bites

    Solution 2:

    1. Close Firefox or Netscape
    2. Open the PDF with Internet Explorer. If you have any problem opening the file with Internet Explorer then you should try some of the solutions stated above.
  • When opening a PDF the web browser becomes a blank screen, or on the CSA Illumina screen that reads "please wait while we contact the vendor", the web browser hangs and the PDF does not open. This is due to the plug-in that is trying to open the PDF within the web browser.

    Solution:

    1. Close your web browsers and open Adobe Reader
    2. Go to the "Edit" menu and select "Preferences"
    3. In the left column select "Internet"
    4. In the Web Browser Options uncheck “Display PDF in browser”
    5. Click OK and try to open the PDF file again
